Projects and demo days

Build it together. Then show it off.

Blocks teach the ideas. Projects put them to work, with friends.

How a project works.

  1. Pick

A small local group chooses one thing to build.

  2. Build

Everyone takes a part. They plan, make, test and fix.

  3. Log

Photos, notes and numbers as they go. That's English and maths, for real.

  4. Demo day

They pitch it: what they built, why, and what they learned.

Why demo days

This is how startups begin.

  • Like-minded people get together and build something.
  • Then they explain it to people who weren't in the room.
  • Children learn to present, to listen, and to work as a team.
  • Explaining it out loud is how you know you own it.

Project ideas

Every project has its own pull.

Each project answers a real question first. Then it pulls children into the blocks that help. Some ideas we're working on:

  • Grow a plant

When will I use this? Why do some plants grow faster than others?

    Pulls into

    • SCIENCE Photosynthesis
    • SCIENCE How plants reproduce
    • MATHS Line graphs
    • ENGLISH Recount an event clearly
  • Electronics kit

When will I use this? Why does a torch go dim when the battery runs down?

    Pulls into

    • SCIENCE Simple circuits
    • SCIENCE Current, voltage and resistance
    • MATHS Substitute into expressions
    • ENGLISH Instructions someone else can follow
  • History brought to life

When will I use this? What was life like when farming began?

    Pulls into

    • HISTORY Farming begins
    • MATHS Negative numbers in context
    • ENGLISH Recount an event clearly
  • Kitchen chemistry

When will I use this? Why does red cabbage juice change colour?

    Pulls into

    • SCIENCE Acids and alkalis
    • MATHS Bar charts and pictograms
    • ENGLISH Instructions that work
  • Run a mini business

When will I use this? Could I make money selling something I made?

    Pulls into

    • MATHS Percentage of an amount
    • MATHS Percentage increase and decrease
    • ENGLISH A persuasive letter with reasons

Coming later: project kits. Things to grow, build and test at home that feed the projects. Kits support learning. They never buy progress.

Demo days are family events. Parents come too, every time.

The blocks named are real blocks and topics from our stack maps. How the pull works.

Still being built. We're shaping projects and demo days now. Families who join early help decide how they work.

If this resonates with you, let's have a chat.

We're building a community of families who see learning this way. We'd like to meet you.
